How to set up OpenConnect on Android
Connect your Android phone or tablet to a company or personal SSL VPN gateway in about three minutes. You'll need the gateway address and sign-in details from your VPN administrator.
Home / Setup guide
OpenConnect is a client — it connects to a VPN gateway that you or your organization already run. It does not provide servers of its own. Once you have your gateway details, setup is quick.
Install OpenConnect
Download the free OpenConnect app from Google Play and open it.
Add your server
Go to the Servers tab, tap Add VPN, and enter your gateway address — for example vpn.yourcompany.com.
Choose the protocol
Open the server's settings and pick the protocol that matches your gateway. If you're not sure, leave it on the default — it works for most AnyConnect-style gateways.
Enter the username and password, client certificate, or RSA SecurID token your organization gave you. The app supports all of these sign-in methods.
Connect
Pick your server on the Connect screen and tap the big power button. The first time, Android asks you to allow the VPN connection — tap OK. You're protected once the button turns green.
Optional: set up Split Tunnel
Open Split Tunnel to choose exactly which apps go through the VPN. Switch an app on to route it through the tunnel; switch it off to let it use your normal connection.
Which protocol should I choose?
OpenConnect speaks the major SSL VPN protocols. Match it to your gateway — your administrator can tell you which one your organization uses:
Frequently asked questions
Is OpenConnect free?
Yes — the app is free to download and use. You connect it to your own VPN gateway; there's no subscription.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You only sign in to your own organization's gateway with the credentials they provide.
What server address do I enter?
The VPN gateway address from your company or administrator, such as vpn.yourcompany.com. The app doesn't supply servers.
It won't connect — what should I check?
Confirm the gateway address is exact, that your username/password or token are current, and that the protocol matches your gateway. If your organization requires a certificate, make sure it's imported on your device.
Does OpenConnect see my traffic?
No. The tunnel runs directly between your device and your gateway. We operate no servers and never see or log your traffic.
